US Marine Corps Jackets:
The distinction of US Marines as the major expeditionary force prevails right back to the American revolution in which the Continental Marines were initially organized to cooperate with the Continental Navy. One of the Corps earliest mission was to guard the southern coastline to destroy any existing existence of English military personnel, then go back to the north and conduct similar services.
Throughout the First Barbary War in 1801-1805, the young US government dispatched its Navy together with the Marines to obtain risk-free passage for merchant ships through the Barbary shorelines of North Africa from the Barbary pirates. This was the source of the particularly famous citation of Tripoli from the Marines' Hymn.
In the Mexican War, the Marines became an integral part of a sea-based strike to capture the port of Veracruz and secure the march to Mexico City. It was viewed as the Marine's first major expeditionary venture.
