US Marine Corps Jackets:
During the First Barbary War in 1801-1805, the young US government sent its naval force and the Marines to secure risk-free passageway for merchant vessels across the Barbary coasts of Northern Africa against the Barbary pirates. This was the origin of the renowned citation of Tripoli from the Marines' Hymn.
During the War of 1812, the Marine Corps' very first ground mission had been the establishment of a military base at Sackets Harbor, New York. Roughly 60 Marines participated. This gave the US naval forces a base about the coast of Lake Ontario, and ultimately, headquartered all their business throughout the Great Lakes. Eventually, the Corps helped drive back a couple of British attacks on Sacket's Harbor.
More recently, the Marine troops were the initial combat forces deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom in November 2001, and then in December, the Marines seized Kandahar Airport. Since that time, the Corps had been battling Taliban and Al-Qaeda troops.
